China. Land of Wonder, Beauty, History, Culture and Enchantment.

Welcome. My pleaseure to present the photos from our recent trip to China, July, 2000. I have photos from Shanghai, Shaowu City, Wuyishan City, Fuzhou, Xiamen. Showing, among others, the Wuyi Mountains and the Taiwan Straight. From a hard climb in the mountains, to a bamboo raft down a river to swimming and "Jet Skiing" in the Taiwan Straight. A wonderful, most memorable trip. And China has much more beauty to offer. I hope to see much more of such a wonderful Country.

Please be aware though that all the photos on my entire Web Site are copyrighted and may not be downloaded or used in any way without my express permission.

Shanghai 2000. Bigger! Better! More beautiful. We arrived on a Friday evening and toured the City again. There is much new construction. I did not even recognize some of the places I visited last year. Shanghai is still a beautiful city. I went for a haircut, but in Shanghai, you don't just get a haircut, it's an event! Shampoo, massage and cut.
Nanjing Lu is a pedestrian walkway now. No cars or busses. There's these motorized "trolley's" you can ride from one end to the other. No, it wasn't raining. The umbrella's were to protect from the unusually hot sun. Nanjing Lu, day or night is beautiful.

TO WUYISHAN
Off to visit the South of China. Well, not all the way south. As far as Xiamen. On the train for Fuzhow, a 17 hour trip. See the train photos on my China Rail page. Wound up getting off at Shaowu City. Boarded a bus for Wuyishan. It was a 1 hour trip through "rural" China. Very beautiful. Arrived at the hotel, got settled and made arrangements for our touring. The hotel management was very helpful, and arranged everything including our train tickets from Wuyishan to Fuzhou. We went to the Wuyi Mountains, took a bamboo raft trip down a river and visited an park with ancient tea trees and was treated to a real Chinese tea ceremony.

BEIJING 1996, 1997

In 1996 and 1997 I visited Beijing. I was told if I liked Beijing I wouldn't like Shanghai but that was far from the truth. I liked them both. They're different Cities. I think Beijing is more the "cultural" City with the museums, cultural relics historical sites and close to the Great Wall. Beijing seems to be more of the "souvenir" city. Shanghai reminds me more of a business and financial center. Of course there's museums in Shanghai and the Buddhist Temple, but not as much as in Beijing.

Beijing and Shanghai are also in different cooking regions of China so the food is much different, but very good in both.
